Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated VP/Controller to create and lead our internal Finance department in a fast-growing environment. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

This highly-visible role is responsible for financial reporting, daily accounting operations, financial planning & analysis, treasury, tax, and assisting in the design and implementation of processes, systems, and policies. The successful candidate will have a detailed understanding of how a public biotechnology company operates. This individual will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, excel at reporting financial information clearly and concisely, and be able to thrive in our fast-paced, diverse and cross-functional work environment. The candidate will initially be very “hands-on” and will be instrumental in the company’s future success and its plans for growth.


  • Ensure that the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements are completed on a timely basis and in accordance with GAAP
  • Manage quarterly and annual financial audit
  • Support financing activities, including possible S-1 filing
  • Oversee outsourced accounting operations team including A/P, payroll, and general ledger
  • Manage financial information systems design, implementation, enhancement, monitoring and controls
  • Develop, implement and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Maintain internal controls for key processes
  • In collaboration with CFO and senior management, drive the financial planning process including preparation of budgets, forecasts and special projects
  • Serve as a business partner to project team leads
  • Oversee banking operations, stock administration, tax reporting and insurance
  • Provide business support including review of significant company contracts


  • BA/BS degree
  • CPA license required
  • 12+ years of experience; biotechnology-type industry experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with a Big Four certified public accounting firm is highly preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of SEC rules and regulations, procedures and practices; ability to lead all public company finance obligations, including reporting and SOX 404
  • Excellent knowledge of ERP systems
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills; ability to interface and communicate effectively with executive management and other functions within the organization
  • Strong team leadership, management, and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail with ability to move easily between hands-on work and strategic thinking
  • Ability to use critical thinking and good business sense to make sound business decisions
  • Proven experience on building team and resolving conflicts in a collaborative manner
